The alum makes the sediment settle out much faster. Then you decant the
clearer water off the top and treat or filter it. I was concerned about
this before...

That seems like an a lot of alum. Commercial water treatment regimens seem
to call for 20 to 30 ppm. Thus 25 ppm would be 25mg\L or approx.. 100mg\Gal
or 1/2...
